Why do I need braces?
Braces have grown in popularity over the last few years. It’s just as common to find children with braces compared to those without. However, braces can be worn by young children all the way to adults. Braces are primarily used to alter the aesthetic of an individual’s smile, but they are also important for building self-confidence and overall oral health. Both are achieved by the braces ability to align teeth into a more natural state to help prevent gum disease, tooth loss, and jaw misalignment.
When left untreated, irregularly spaced teeth can make it difficult to clean various areas of the teeth. This can allow cavities to develop more easily. When teeth are properly aligned, they can be reached easily by toothbrushes and floss for the best possible results. Braces will also help a patient to chew food easier, as well as reduce or eliminate headaches and pain caused by uneven chewing. In modern years, there have been technological advancements in the braces industry that open up even more options to fit you and your unique lifestyle.
How do braces straighten my teeth?
Braces are a long-term treatment option for teeth alignment correction. When installed, braces will exert a gentle pressure on your teeth to push and pull them into more desirable positions. Braces are primarily made up of two components: the braces themselves and an arcing wire to connect them. When combined and altered by your Check Dental hygienist or dentist, these components will allow the teeth to slowly realign over time.
Why are retainers important?
After you have had your braces removed after the completion of treatment, you will be given a set of retainers to wear regularly. If not worn as instructed by your orthodontist, your teeth will gradually move and may return to their original position before treatment.
How long does orthodontic treatment last?
Orthodontic treatment will vary from person to person, depending on a number of factors. On average, braces treatment can last anywhere between 12 to 36 months. The better you or your child is at maintaining proper oral hygiene and caring for the braces, the quicker the treatment can be completed.
What is the cost of orthodontic treatment?
The fees associated with braces will be determined by a number of factors, including the severity of the teeth that need to be corrected, the age of the patient, and the expected duration of treatment.
